The pandemic initially has the travel sector firmly under control. The Easter business is likely to fail to a large extent and the summer business with package tours is only slowly gaining momentum.

Many sun seekers are putting their vacation planning on hold for the time being in view of the travel restrictions and the uncertainty about the course of the COVID-19. According to surveys, the desire to travel is great. So far, it has primarily benefited providers of holiday in Europe. Sometimes the booking inquiries are higher than the offer.

Travel agents are hoping for growing demand from sun-seekers from spring. In January and February they expect customers to be cautious about booking due to the lockdown, but then, by Easter at the latest, a broad recovery. Holidays in many countries will be possible again without major restrictions from spring or summer travel 2021 at the latest. Organizers try to push the business with the possibility of free rebooking or cancellations.

Italy and Central Europe Will Benefit

According to the agents, countries that can be reached by car or train, for example Italy, Austria and Poland, will also benefit from the neighbour citizens desire to travel. Depending on the further course of the pandemic, the destinations on the Mediterranean will be in demand again. Here we see – as in the previous year Greece and Spain ahead.
